Altera will commence volume production within six months following engineering samples slated to be available in the third quarter of 2007, according to company senior director of product marketing for high-end FPGAs David Greenfield at a recent event in Taipei.
Greenfield highlighted that customers can now utilize software (Quartus II software v6.1) to work on Stratix III design. Industry players generally believe Altera should have significant wafer start ramp up for 65nm FPGAs during late 2007 to 2008, which should eventually benefit its primary foundry partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and packaging and testing partner Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE).
