Qimonda unveil DDR366 Mobile Ram

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

Qimonda AG announced the availability of the industry’s first 183MHz double data rate synchronous Mobile-RAM (DDR366). The new memory chip offers a capacity of 512Mbit in a 60-ball FBGA package, with 1.8V power supply and compliance with the JEDEC DDR standard.

Qimonda is first to market with a 183MHz Mobile-RAM, which will help system manufacturers respond to growing demand for high-bandwidth, low-power performance to support feature-rich mobile and consumer handheld devices.

“The increasing popularity of portable devices - from multimedia mobile phones to MP3 audio/video players and digital cameras - drives the needs for high-performance and low power memory solutions,” said Thomas Seifert, Member of the Management Board, at Qimonda. “As these mobile electronics products feature more and more functionality, key components such as memory must be able to support high performance features while not straining the overall power budget. With the availability of the first 183MHz, 1.8V Mobile-RAM Qimonda reinforces its leadership in high-speed and low-power memory solutions for portable devices.”

The data rate of 366Mbit/s offered by the new high-speed Mobile-RAM is 30 percent faster than standard DDR266 DRAM. This enhanced performance is achieved with a conventional BGA package, requiring no change in the system design. Qimonda, a market leader for Mobile-RAM, is working closely with its key customers and leading processor vendors to guarantee interoperability of their future systems platforms launching in 2007.

Mobile-RAM combines ultra low power consumption for battery-powered systems with extremely compact chip-scale packages for space constrained applications. Leveraging its power saving trench technology combined with power management features like TCSR (Temperature-Compensated Self-Refresh), PASR (Partial Array Self-Refresh), OCTS (On Chip Temperature Sensor) and DPD (Deep Power Down) Mode Qimonda offers Mobile-RAM with the lowest operation currents for a longer battery lifetime.
