Qimonda AG unit chief executive Kin Wah Loh plans to cease memory chip production at the company's 200 millimetre wafer fab in Dresden, Germany in October 2007 in order to cut costs, according to sources
When asked during a company-wide meeting if production could continue at the plant after Oct 1, the chief executive replied 'definitely no,' the sources said.
They added that the plant currently employs about 2,500 workers. Their future is now uncertain because of the plan to cease memory chip production there.
A Qimonda spokesman could not be reached for immediate comment.
