South Korea government plans to invest 3.41 trillion won ($3.71 billion) in public IT projects during 2007, an 11.7 percent increase over 2006, the ministry of Information and Communication said.
The investment will go to 217 projects to provide upgraded security, including establishment of integrated wireless telecommunications networks, electronic passport systems and RFID-based waste disposal, the ministry said.
A total of 198 projects to help accelerate the ongoing e-government efforts, including an integrated government computing center. Over 100 projects will upgrade industrial IT, including establishment of RFID-based business-to-business networks and a management system fo information on technology and patents.
The government also plans to set up an integrated wired and wireless telecommunications networks along with RFID-based systems for distribution and terminal automation systems at 28 ports facilities.
