Samsung OneNand Flash to be with Qualcomm chipset

Thursday, December 21, 2006 Samsung Electronics OneNAND flash memory will be supported in new Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chip sets, the company said.

The deal combines OneNAND flash memory with MSM chip sets, including those for 3G phones and other new services from carriers, Samsung said.

As the industry moves to 3G-based services, OneNAND's 17 Mbyte/s performance allows streaming wireless downloads beyond the high-speed downlink packet access specification, according to Samsung.

Samsung is pitching OneNAND for multimedia handset applications and for use as a nonvolatile buffer in hybrid hard disks. OneNAND is available with up to 2-Gbyte capacity and will expand in 2007 to 4-Gbyte using a 50-nm manufacturing process, Samsung added.
