VIA Technologies is seeking to deploy its C7 processor in other markets such as digital consumer electronics, entry-level notebook PCs and thin-client PCs, according to industry sources.
VIA introduced its C7 processors to replace its C3 series in early 2006, but inventory of the C3 is currently high and adoption of the C& by IPC makers has proven unsatisfactory, the sources pointed out.
VIA has seen some success in shifting its marketing strategy for its C7 processors with Samsung Electronics adopting the C7 in its Q1b, a Ultra-mobile PC with a 7-inch LCD screen, the sources noted.
VIA will showcase the EPIA EX Mini-ITX motherboard, its latest compact platform supporting a wide range of digital media technologies to meet the fast growing demand for x86-based consumer electronics, at the upcoming 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 8-11, according to the company.
