STMicroelectronics Inc. has announced a licensing agreement with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. to deliver next-generation graphics technology for mobile devices.
The licensing agreement will combine ST's Nomadik platform with the 3D graphics core technology from AMD's Handheld Division, formerly part of ATI Technologies. The resulting platform will deliver chips solutions for mobile gaming and user interface applications.
ST has licensed AMD's OpenGL ES 2.0 compliant 3D and OpenVG 1.0 vector graphics core engine and related software. Development teams from AMD and ST will work together to integrate AMD's unified shader-based technology into Nomadik devices for the next generation of high-end feature phones, smartphones and other portable multimedia devices.
