Ford maps out 70m surroundings for self-driven car 2/28/2014
The trial vehicle uses a rotating Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) sensor located on the roof to scan the surroundings with a range of some 70m. The data generated are transformed in real-time into a virtual 3D map that contains all the objects detected in proximity to the vehicle.
