Like most DRAM makers, Taiwan's merchant suppliers would like to forget about 1998. Having entered the once-prosperous DRAM industry in the early to mid-1990s, Taiwan's small but ambitious DRAM vendors were stung by losses and overcapacity last year.

TOKYO --The price of 64 megabit DRAMs on spot markets have plunged to a record low of around 6.7 dollars a chip, down 17% from the end of March and 30% lower than mid-February.
